The annual Amarnath Yatra faced disruption on July 28 as authorities suspended the pilgrimage from the Baltal route due to bad weather. Officials cited safety concerns and ongoing repair work as primary reasons for this decision.
Earlier, the Yatra also suspended operations from the Pahalgam route to conduct necessary maintenance on the pathways leading to the revered shrine. Heavy rains caused flash floods in the Baltal area last night, yet officials confirmed there was no loss of life or property damage reported.
Due to adverse weather conditions, no pilgrims can proceed towards the holy cave shrine today from the Baltal route. Authorities are currently prioritizing repair work to ensure the safety and comfort of pilgrims once the weather improves.
The 2023 Amarnath Yatra began on July 3 and has already welcomed approximately 4.5 lakh devotees, who paid their respects at the shrine housing the naturally formed ice lingam—a significant pilgrimage site for countless believers.
This year’s pilgrimage is scheduled to conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, traditionally deemed a auspicious time for devotees to undertake this journey.
