A major security alert erupted in Ramban district early Friday when a suspicious Scorpio vehicle breached a police checkpoint at Chanderkote and fled towards Nashri, despite multiple attempts by personnel to stop it.
The incident began around 3.30 a.m. as the Scorpio, registered as JK02AK-1743, was traveling from Srinagar towards Jammu. Officers stationed at the Chanderkote security checkpoint signaled the driver to stop.
According to sources, the driver ignored the orders and accelerated away. Police personnel fired three warning shots in a desperate bid to halt the fleeing vehicle. However, the Scorpio continued towards Nashri.
In response, Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a large-scale search operation, enlisting the help of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Army. Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta arrived at the scene to oversee the search efforts.
The authorities successfully seized the suspicious Scorpio near Dalwas, where further investigations commenced. “The district police have seized the suspicious Scorpio near Dalwas, and further investigation is underway. Detailed information will be shared as the investigation progresses,” Gupta stated.
Following the incident, security forces intensified searches throughout the area. The rationale behind the vehicle’s breach of the security checkpoint remains undetermined as officials continue to examine the circumstances.
The police confirmed that they are exploring all aspects of the incident to ascertain any potential threats to public safety. This alert highlights the need for continuous vigilance and security measures in Ramban district, particularly given the region’s historical security challenges.
