Punjab Residents Charged in Fake MES Recruitment Scam

The Crime Branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Police has officially charged two residents of Punjab for their alleged role in a fraudulent recruitment scheme involving the Military Engineering Services (MES).

This scam emerged in 2023, when the accused, Bakshish Singh from Amritsar and Amandeep Singh from Jalandhar, reportedly conned two residents from Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district out of Rs 14 lakh by promising them jobs within the MES. The chargesheet was filed on Monday in the court of the Additional Special Mobile Magistrate in Samba.

The investigation began when locals filed complaints after being induced to pay the large sum under the false pretense of securing employment with the MES. The Crime Branch officially registered the case under pertinent sections of the Indian Penal Code in 2023.

According to a spokesperson from the Jammu Crime Branch, Bakshish Singh was apprehended in Amritsar following an extensive search. However, Amandeep Singh remains at large despite multiple raids and a lookout notice issued for his arrest.

Authorities are proceeding with efforts to declare him a proclaimed offender in court. The investigations revealed troubling details about how the victims were deceived. They received forged appointment letters and were misled into traveling to various locations across India, including Ranchi and Meerut, ostensibly for medical examinations and document verification.

Official verification from the MES confirmed that these appointment letters were indeed fraudulent and had not been issued by the department at any point. During the investigation, the Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch collected compelling evidence, comprising documentary, digital, and financial records, including bank transaction details and forensic examinations of the dubious documents.

The Crime Branch spokesperson emphasized the importance of public vigilance against such fraudulent job rackets. They urged individuals to verify the authenticity of recruitment offers by consulting official government channels before making any financial commitments.

As this case unfolds, it serves as a stern reminder of the increasing prevalence of job scams in India. Authorities reiterate the necessity for candidates to remain cautious and conduct due diligence to protect themselves from financial fraud.
