J&K Cop Arrested for Hitting Officer with Vehicle in Anantnag

A constable from Jammu and Kashmir faced arrest on Monday after he struck and injured a Station House Officer (SHO) with his vehicle in Anantnag district. The incident starkly highlights issues of safety and professionalism within the police force.

Officials reported that this critical incident unfolded in South Kashmir’s Anantnag earlier in the morning. The constable, while overspeeding, collided with SHO Majid Ahmad Khan, injuring him near the Bijbehara police station.

The event took place late Sunday evening when SHO Khan, on duty, was attending to his responsibilities. The police vehicle, identified by the registration number JK16A-3739, was subsequently seized following the incident.

The accused constable, Khurshid Ahmad Wani, a selection-grade officer, hailed from the Bindoo area in Kokernag, Anantnag. Authorities stated that he was driving excessively fast, leading to the unfortunate accident.

As the investigation unfolds, police expressed concern regarding the reckless behavior exhibited by one of their own. The arrest comes as part of broader efforts to ensure accountability within the force. Officials confirmed that they are interrogating Wani regarding the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

This incident raises serious questions about officer conduct and adherence to road safety regulations, especially in locations known for heightened tensions. SHO Khan’s condition remains under medical evaluation, and further updates will follow as investigations continue.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police maintain a strong focus on improving internal accountability, aiming to foster a culture of responsibility among their ranks. Officials reiterated their commitment to swift action against any form of misconduct that could jeopardize public trust.
