CM Omar Abdullah Condemns Kulgam Terror Attack on Labourers

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the recent terror attack in Kulgam district that resulted in the tragic death of two migrant labourers. He stressed on Tuesday that no religion permits the killing of innocent individuals, emphasizing the need for security measures to prevent such violence.

The incident occurred on July 31 at a brick kiln, where migrant workers from Chhattisgarh became victims of an unprovoked assault. Abdullah described the attack as “very unfortunate,” reiterating the position that words alone cannot encapsulate the gravity of the situation.

“The killing is very unfortunate. It shouldn’t have happened. No religion permits killing innocent people like this. Words are not enough to condemn it,” Abdullah stated during a press interaction, expressing deep concern over the safety of civilians in the region.

He further added, “It is expected from those whose responsibility it is to maintain security that they will not let such attacks take place.” Abdullah’s remarks highlight an urgent call for improved protective measures for vulnerable populations, particularly migrant workers who often face increased risks in conflict-affected areas.

This attack marks yet another incident of violence targeting non-local residents in Jammu and Kashmir, eliciting widespread condemnation and calls for action from various political leaders and community organizations. The ongoing tensions in the region prompt a critical examination of security protocols and the effectiveness of measures currently in place.

As the state government reassesses their strategy to maintain law and order, authorities are urged to prioritize the safety of all individuals, regardless of their background. The tragic death of these labourers serves as a stark reminder of the continued plight faced by many in the region.
