In a tragic incident today, 33 tourists from West Bengal sustained injuries when their sleeper bus overturned on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) near Ramban. The bus, bearing registration number WB39K-2929, was travelling from Srinagar to Jammu when the accident occurred.
Local residents and police rushed to the scene, initiating a prompt rescue operation. They swiftly transported the injured to the District Hospital Ramban for urgent medical care. Authorities confirmed that the bus, which has a seating capacity of 58, was carrying 55 passengers at the time of the accident.
The District Police has acknowledged the incident and commenced an investigation to determine the cause of the mishap. ‘We are examining various factors that may have led to the bus overturning,’ an official stated.
Officials are urging motorists to exercise caution on this busy highway, which has witnessed several accidents in the past. This incident highlights the need for enhanced safety measures for passenger transportation, particularly during peak travel seasons.
The condition of the injured passengers remains stable as hospital staff continue to provide care. Families of the passengers have been notified, and local authorities are ensuring they receive all necessary support.
