Hiranagar, May 26: In a major crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, the Hiranagar Police seized a significant quantity of illicit liquor during a routine checkpoint operation near Chhalla Bridge, Dinga Amb today.
According to officials, a Police Check Post (PCP) team from Dinga Amb under Police Station Hiranagar intercepted a Bolero pickup (Registration No. JK08F 0119) coming from Ramkot towards Dayalachak. Upon being signaled to stop, the driver of the vehicle fled from the spot, leaving behind his associate who was apprehended on-site.
The arrested individual has been identified as Ashok Kumar, son of Kartar Chand, resident of Mangloor, Tehsil Dinga Amb. He revealed the name of the driver as Aman Singh Jaarotia, son of Nishan Singh Jaarotia, resident of Maya, Tehsil Hiranagar.
Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered:
69 quarters of 180 ml illicit liquor
36 quarters of 250 ml
11 bottles of 750 ml
A case has been registered at Police Station Hiranagar and further investigation is underway. Authorities are making efforts to trace and apprehend the absconding driver.
The police have reaffirmed their commitment to curbing the illegal trade of alcohol in the region and have urged the public to report any suspicious activities.
