RAMBAN, JULY 08: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gool, Imtiaz, chaired a pivotal Sub-Division Level Disaster Management and Coordination Meeting today. The meeting focused on reviewing disaster preparedness, enhancing inter-departmental coordination, and ensuring effective relief measures against natural hazards such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts within the sub-division.
The meeting brought together various key officials, including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, Naib Tehsildar Inktikhab Ahmed, and several engineers from the Jal Shakti, PMGSY, and PWD departments. Representatives from health, police, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were also present.
During the meeting, the SDM conducted a detailed review of the existing disaster management plan, focusing on the availability of personnel, machinery, and essential commodities. He underscored the importance of operational control rooms and effective communication systems.
With the monsoon season approaching, Imtiaz directed all line departments to remain on high alert. He emphasized the need for round-the-clock monitoring of areas particularly susceptible to landslides and flash floods.
The SDM insisted on proactive measures and seamless coordination among all departments to prepare for any emergency that may arise. He instructed the Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY departments to identify vulnerable spots and ensure that restoration teams and machinery are ready for immediate response.
In addition, the Health department received directives to guarantee the availability of necessary medicines, ambulances, and medical staff at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Gool and Primary Health Centres (PHCs). The Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department was tasked with maintaining buffer stocks of essential rations, while the Power Development Department (PDD) was urged to secure backup power arrangements.
The SDM also instructed Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to regularly inspect vulnerable areas, keep updated databases of disaster-prone zones, and foster public awareness about safety protocols during calamities.
Furthermore, the police and the 23 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were requested to assist in rescue and evacuation operations, while Beacon representatives were charged with ensuring early restoration of road access in the event of blockades.
Imtiaz reiterated that the safety of lives and property ranks as the top priority for the administration. He affirmed that effective coordination, timely response, and public cooperation will be vital in minimizing the impact of disasters. The administration stands fully prepared to tackle challenging situations caused by natural calamities.
