Opposition MPs, including Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, protested in the Parliament House complex on Tuesday against the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya and police actions against student protesters. The protest highlights mounting tensions around these issues as various political parties unite under the INDIA bloc.
The group displayed their discontent by carrying placards and shouting slogans, such as ‘chhanda chor, gaddi chor’ and ‘Amit Shah jawaab do’. These slogans called for accountability from the government, particularly targeting Home Minister Amit Shah’s absence from the Parliament during this crucial debate.
To emphasize their grievances, the MPs set up donation boxes at the protest site, symbolizing the alleged theft of funds meant for the temple. Protesters lined up around these boxes, chanting slogans while some contributed cash to represent the donations that, they claim, have gone missing.
Among the prominent figures joining Vadra in the protest were Dimple Yadav and Dharmendra Yadav from the Samajwadi Party, Sagarika Ghose from the Trinamool Congress, Sanjay Yadav and Manoj Jha from the Rashtriya Janata Dal, as well as NK Premchandran from the Revolutionary Socialist Party.
The protesting MPs also carried a large banner demanding to know why Amit Shah was absent from Parliament, further intensifying their call for his accountability regarding the alleged donation theft and the recent police actions.
The INDIA bloc continues to pressurize the government on the issues of ‘chhanda chori’ (theft of donations) and alleged police brutality against peaceful student protests that occurred last week. Their unified stance aims to draw public attention to these significant matters.
To strategize their approach, leaders of the INDIA bloc gathered with Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, to coordinate their efforts. These discussions focused on how to effectively address the issues of donation theft and police excesses during the ongoing parliamentary sessions.
The protest reflects the intensifying political climate in India, where allegations of corruption and mismanagement provoke strong public and political responses. The Ram temple’s ongoing fund collection efforts have become contentious not just for financial reasons but also for broader religious and political implications.
The opposition’s move comes at a time when students across the country have been voicing their concerns regarding police actions that many perceive as heavy-handed against peaceful assemblies. By linking the theft of donations to police brutality, the MPs aim to draw a clear narrative connecting governance failures with public dissent.
This protest is part of a larger strategy by the opposition to hold the ruling government accountable for its actions and decisions that directly affect citizens. The INDIA bloc is determined to push these critical issues into the mainstream political discourse.
